Harmony monterey guitar4/2/2023 Please accept my apology and move it to the right area. **EDIT** I just realized I probably posted this in the wrong section of the forum. Established in 1892, one of the largest manufacturers of student guitars rivaled only by the likes of Kay, they produced countless numbers of instruments. My brother said he can make any guitar sound good, so he's not worried that I think it sounded weird. The Harmony name was a registered Trademark 627412. Maybe if you changed out the tuners and got it playing ok it would sound good in an ensemble with other guitars. Have any of you owned/played one of these before? If so, did you like it? Personally I don't really see the attraction, other than for maybe the novelty factor. Let me empasize that I have no interest in buying this guitar. The guy said it was $285 but I'm sure he'd take less. The necks were steel reinforced basswood with an oval ebonized fingerboard and a bone nut. The Monterey line were 'Auditorium size' at 41' x 15.75' with a 25.25' scale length. I have to admit it looked kind of cool, but I thought the tone was kind of "different" and the tuners were so stiff I could barely turn them and the neck was so fat I could barely get my hand around it. The H950 Monterey Leaderwas one of the most popular archtops of the sixties and were produced from approximately 1938 to 1972. I was in a local pawnshop today and came across one from the 1940's. He thinks they're the coolest guitars ever. My little brother has been talking about wanting to get a vintage Harmony archtop lately.
